Congress not Dysfunctional

http://news.yahoo.com/debt-compromise-eyed-under-deadline-squeeze-000255892.html

The key line of this article is toward the end when the author states about the US government, ” The dysfunctional gridlock in Washington has also raised concern over the long-term decline of U.S. economic power and the status of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.”  This is not dysfunction, this is functionality at it’s very best and highest.  The legislators are actually doing their jobs.  It may seem strange for complacent USA citizens, but this kind of real debate, real legislative work, real differences in political views…all of this indicates a very good and healthy and highly functional government.  Note that nobody is rioting.  We do not have massive labor strikes that spill over into the streets and no one is calling out the military in order to control an unruly population.  It’s just that we have become soft and we do not like conflict and we want all of this to simply be solved and go away so that we can get back to whatever it is that gives us pleasure.  Politics may be a game, but it the real game of governing and the stakes are real and there will be winners and losers- really!!

England is Stll Imperialist and Colonialist

Britain, France and USA are big on Democratic gov. for Libya.  Well, who elected these new guys?  Nobody. They are puppets for the Western European NATO military alliance.  Secondly, who unelected the government of Libya?  Nobody. This new unilateral move by the tainted Cameron government is more British colonialism and reveals that Britain has no respect for African nations, for the African Union of nations or for the people of Libya.  Now, after tens of thousands of bombs have pulverized the cities, roads and infrastructure of the free and sovereign State of LIbya, the Brits show their imperialist nature by claiming that through diplomatic recognition it can cast aside the legal government of Libya, steal it’s bank accounts in order to have the Libyan people pay for the British chosen new government, and impose a government acceptable to Britain on the Libyan people.  This is gross liberalism and reveal the war mongering criminal aggressions and now colonialist nature of the British empire mentality. Shame on USA for being part of this mafia style take over of a whole free nation and its valuable oil assets by the big bullies of NATO.  WHERE IS RUSSIA OR ARE THEY STILL COMMIES WHO WILL GO ALONG WITH THIS SHAM? How about China?  They suffered terribly under British imperilism and a British colonial policy that fostered the mass addiction of the Chinese people by providing opium to Chinese people and using their mass addiction to undermine the government of China.  The Brits didn’t care about the tens of thousands of innocent Chinese who died in the British sponsored opium dens of China.  All they wanted then and all they want now is unfettered access to Chinese mineral resources.  China should demand a stop to this criminal activity by the Western European and USA backed military partners of NATO.  Strange isn’t it that a USA citizen finds himself looking to communist and former communist nations for help in stopping the new colonialism and imperialism of the West and USA!

If Paul Ryan says Yes…Well..

http://www.newsmax.com/InsideCover/Ryan-Boehner-Debt-Plan/2011/07/27/id/404968?s=al&promo_code=CB34-1

This writer completely trusts Representative Paul Ryan.  In fact I think it is he who should be elected our President.  So, although I completely favor the already passed Cut Cap and Balance bill, if all we can get is the Boehner plan, then let’s go for it.  However, the onus is onn Speaker Boehner to absolutely guarantee that this special committee has Rep. Jordan, And Ryan and Senator De Mint on it.

Harry Reid is Stopping Progress

the house passed the Cut spending, Cap future spending, and balance the Budget Constitutional amendment bill.  As is ALWAYS the case Senator Harry Reid, Democrat, said that the Bill was dead on arrival in the Senate.  How is that compromising Harry?  Anyway, There was great public call in and email and write in to give the Cut, Cap and Balance bill a hearing.  Instead Senate Democrats decided to “table” the bill in the Senate which means that the Democrats decided not to even read, discuss, debate or attempt to amend the House passed bill.  The House tries to solve the debt problem and the Senate says, “dead on arrival”  and then the President says that even if the Senate passes it, he will veto it.  How is that compromise?  But then President Obama gets on TV and tells the nation that the problem is that the “other guys”( Republicans) will not compromise!!  So it looks like we have some really game playing here.  First, it is the President who is supposed to propose the budget.  But Obama says that “ain’t my job , man!”  Instead he throws his responsibility upon the House Republicans and takes the role of scolder, demander and whiner in Chief.  So the Republicans take the responsibility because it is obvious the Democrats will not.  The propose the Ryan Plan.  Not perfect but a very reasonable plan.  But Harry Reid, Democrat of the Sem=nate says, ” Dead on Arrival”  But Reid then goes on TV and says that the Republicans will not compromise.  The Obama says that any plan that does not meet t=his criteria will be vetoed.  But after that Obama goes on Radio and complains that the Republicans will not compromise.  So the House passes the Cut Cap and Balance Bill and Reid refused to compromise…instead he shouts, “Dead on arrival”  and goes to the cameras and complains that the Republicans will not compromise.  Now the Republicans try again with the Boehner Bill but already Reid says, “Dead on Arrival”nd Obama says “I’ll veto it”  and then both go on TV and say, ” it’s the Republicans fault because they will not compromise.”  I believe the American people are a fair-minded people and although they may be calling the Republicans with the message, “Fix this mess.”  I think they can now see that they need to replace the not compromising Democrats at the nest election so that we can get back to functioning government.  It is obvious that the Democrats do not care about functioning government, all they care about is making sure that anything the Republicans do is eith “Dead on Arrival”  or Vetoed.

Speaker Boehner is the Right Man for a Time Such as This

As the
Aug. 2 debt-ceiling deadline looms, we should applaud House Speaker John Boehner
for standing firm and not being rolled over by those in the White House and
their media campaign.

Boehner has not yielded to demands for new taxes
and reducing spending cuts. Nor has he acquiesced to demands that the president
be given carte blanche to raise the debt ceiling in the future.

Ever since the GOP
took control of the House, the president’s approach has been, at worst, one of
willful opposition to new ideas and, at best, simple indifference to fixing the
nation’s problems. Obama and his spin machine now say they need a debt ceiling
agreed to through the next election. Giving him this may not be wise. The debt
ceiling has served as a mighty lever to bring Obama to the table.

Make
no mistake about it — Obama is not Bill Clinton. Obama doesn’t believe in
compromise. When Clinton was faced with a new Republican Congress in 1995, he
did a 180-degree turn on many of his agenda items. He embraced Republican ideas
like massive welfare reform and even slashed capital gains taxes. The system of
give and take and compromise worked and propelled the nation into economic
prosperity.

Compare that to today: The president seems to want it his
way or no way.

Perhaps politics is playing a big role here. Obama is
trying to placate his liberal base, which is angry with him. He won the last
election by promising radical changes in foreign policy, especially when it came
to U.S. policy toward Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran. He defeated Hillary Clinton
largely on these issues.

Frankly, since coming to office, Obama has
gravitated to the center on foreign policy and has done a fairly good job in
that arena. He has kept seasoned veterans in key positions and his recent moves
of Gen. David Petraeus to the CIA, and Leon Panetta, former CIA director, to the
Defense Department, were brilliant.

No longer able to play the
foreign policy card as he did during the campaign, the president has been
focusing on those “evil House Republicans” to keep the liberals
happy.

One hot-button issue for his base is taxes. The president wants to
prove to his liberal base he’s going to go after the wealthy and make them pay.

The problem is that the economy cannot handle new taxes. Speaker Boehner
is to be commended for arguing three simple points: 1. The debt ceiling should
not be raised to allow the president a free ride until after the 2012 election.
2. There should be no additional “revenues” or tax increases. 3. There needs to
be serious spending cuts.

For the most part these spending cuts are not
immediate cuts to the federal budget, but are cuts to the rate of growth of
government, a sensible approach taken by both Ronald Reagan and Clinton that
dramatically improved the country’s finances during the 1980s and ’90s.

Nevertheless, Obama is dead set on new taxes. The Democrats have claimed
that such tax increases could be made by closing corporate loopholes and making
the tax system more fair for everyone.

At first glance, it seems like a
positive idea. But the net effect of this effort, advocated in the Gang of Six’s
plan, is to raise taxes over by an additional $1 trillion in new taxes. This tax
money will be taken from the private sector and moved into government accounts.

Such a move would be counterproductive. First, new taxes will only help
stall the economic recovery. Second, the economy desperately needs new stimulus,
not new taxes.

Obama and his advisers must know this. His 2009 stimulus
plan was not well planned out and only did half the job. True, it kept the
economy from falling off the cliff. At the same time his stimulus, focused on
keeping government employees at work, never gave the economy the appropriate
lift that it needed.

Republicans favor tax cuts, and I believe they
would likely do a deal for more of them.

If Obama did deal — let’s say
for a one-year holiday suspension of the FICA tax for all workers and small
businesses, it would mean more than $600 billion in additional stimulus
immediately put into the economy over the next 12 months.

This would not
only re-energize the entire U.S. economy, it would finally signal a move by
Obama to the center in a powerful way, helping to pave the way for his
re-election.

Can Obama be so bold? As the debt crisis has demonstrated,
the president is preoccupied by his party’s liberal base. The truth is they have
nowhere to go in the next election.

Instead, Obama should follow
Boehner’s path, a pragmatic approach, one that keeps the United States solvent
for now and for years to come.© Newsmax. All rights reserved.

Senator Judd Gregg tells the Truth.

There will be no default, former GOP Sen. Judd Gregg
writes in The
Hill.
It’s not that government will stop – just 41 percent of government.
The coming political battle may be over which 41 percent is going to get
defunded.

“There will be no default. Social Security checks can go out.
The military will be funded. Even most of the costs of Medicare could be
reimbursed,” Gregg writes.

Rather, because 41 cents of every $1 spent by
the federal government is borrowed, about 41 percent of government will not be
paid for. The rest is covered by tax receipts.

“The
practical effect of hitting the debt limit is not that the entire activities of
the government suddenly stop. It is that 41 percent of the government stops,”
Gregg writes.

“Unfortunately, because the decision as to who and what
gets paid is left to the president and his people, it is more than likely that
the politics of the situation might cause them to choose not to send out Social
Security checks or pay Medicare,” Gregg points out.

“This would give
them the double benefit of enraging seniors, whose rage the president’s party
would adeptly (with the assistance of NPR) direct at the Republicans while
continuing to fund their favored departments such as Labor and Transportation
that take care of their issues and friends.

“This is why the Republican
House needs to pass a bill that outlines how it thinks the revenues that will be
coming in should be spent. They need to be on record as opposing a default and
supporting paying the military, Social Security and Medicare, otherwise they
will be brutalized in this political battle by a White House that may not know
how to govern but certainly knows how to blame others.”

Obama Scolder and Demander in Chief

After last week’s talks broke down, US congressional leaders got a scolding from
President Obama Saturday morning and have been working steadily since then. They
hoped to be able to show enough progress by Sunday afternoon EST to avoid
spooking Asian markets, which open Sunday evening EST.

This comment on the wire services deserves comment.

Firstly, I am amazed that an US citizen would say that the President of the USA has the right to scold the elected Representatives of the Congress.  What are we?  Is Obama the big daddy and we the little wayward children?  That is absurd.

Secondly, what makes the writer think that Obama has some kind of edge here.  He does not.  As I remember the process, it goes like this:  The President proposes and the Congress disposes.  Obama has turned this upside down.  He demands that the House of Representatives produce a budget to which he will agree.  That is ass backwards.

Thirdly, the writer does not care to mention that there are no researched, written proposals on the part of the President or of his administration concerning the actual makeup of the budget.  All that Obama does is crack the whip, make demands, scold, wag his finger, complain and whine that the other guys are not carrying his load for him.

The President needs to stop being the preacher, the parent, or the teacher.  He needs to stop demanding, criticizing, blaming and name calling.  He needs to stop whining and get to work proposing actual money figures.  He needs to propose legislation in a legislation format.  Up til now, he makes a speech about something and then tells the legislators to get to work and turn his speech into actual practical possible legislation.  Hey,Mr. President, as you maybe have not noticed, but if you are as brilliant as your media friends say you are, then you should have noticed that your way of thinking and doing is false, phony and completely not doable.

The Republicans have worked very hard for America.  The put forward the Plan named “the way forward” AKA also known as the Ryan plan after US house of Representatives member Mr. Paul Ryan.  But instead of engaging this viable plan, Democrat Senator Harry Reid called it “Dead on Arrival at the Senate.”  That was months ago and if the Democrats did not like it they could have done their jobs by examining it, debating it, amending it and passing their own form of it .  This amended form would have gone to a joint committee of both the house and the Senate a compromise reached for the passage of a bill which would have raised the debt ceiling, made appropriate cuts, hemmed in spending and guaranteed the viability of Medicare and Social Security.  Instead the Democrat controlled Senate nixed it without debate and refused to compromise.

Then the Republican leaders tried to meet with the Democrats of the Senate but were refused because the price of admission set by Democrat Harry Reid was that the Republicans do it his way or they could forget about even meeting.

Then we get this Gang of Six bi partisan proposal which raises the debt limit for Obama and then merely directs, suggests and proposals possibilities for cutting US Spending.  Senator Rand Paul said that the Gang of six proposal was a bunch of crudely formulated suggestions for a way to get things done; a suggestion that others get to work in the coming year and figure this thing out.  He said on Sean Hannity that the so-called “Gang of Six” proposal is not in any way formatted as legislation.  By the way, this Gang of Six proposal was refused by Obama in December.

Then we have the House of Representative pass the Cap and Balance bill which also raised the debt limit and seriously address the 14 trillion dollar deficit.  Again the Senate did not debate the bill, nor seek to amend it and go to compromise committee but Democrat Senator Harry Reid marshalled his Democrat majority in the Senate and defeated it instead of engaging it, modifying it and compromising.

Meanwhile back at the White House we have the President engaging in an illegal war of criminal aggression against the people of Libya.  He is also playing B ball and golf and having parties at the WH.  And when he constantly since January 2011 reminded of the looming budget crisis he shrugs it off and blames everything on Bush and Boehner.

The President needs to get to work tonight to research, develop and propose a budget for the USA.  He does not have one and it will take him months to make one.  So the question is, “What Has Obama been doing?”  The answer, sadly, is that he has been doing and continues to do nothing.
